Washington, D.C. – March 13, 2025 - The National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics (NILE) today announced the release of its AI in Advocacy Code of Ethics, a landmark framework designed to guide the ethical and transparent use of artificial intelligence in lobbying and public affairs.

“AI is rapidly transforming advocacy, and NILE is committed to ensuring our profession embraces it responsibly,” said Paul Miller, NILE Board Chair. “After a year-long process of gathering extensive input from professionals across the industry, we are proud to introduce this code as a crucial step in setting responsible guidelines for AI’s role in lobbying.”

Developed through a collaborative and deliberate effort, the AI in Advocacy Code of Ethics reflects the diverse perspectives of industry leaders who recognize the need for transparency and accountability in the evolving advocacy landscape. NILE sees this code as a living document that will evolve as AI’s role in lobbying campaigns continues to expand.

However, ethical AI use alone is not enough. The Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA)—the foundation of lobbying transparency—is outdated and fails to account for modern advocacy tools like AI. NILE urges Congress to work with the profession on a comprehensive rewrite of the LDA to ensure transparency and accountability keep pace with innovation.

“NILE will continue leading these critical conversations because the future of lobbying must be ethical, transparent, and responsible,” added Miller. “We thank everyone who contributed to this effort—our work doesn’t stop here.”

Meaningful step forward worth acknowledging — the National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics releasing an AI in Advocacy Code of Ethics addresses a governance gap that democratic integrity genuinely cannot afford to leave unresolved as AI-powered influence campaigns become increasingly sophisticated and difficult to distinguish from authentic civic engagement. Executives navigating that ethical and strategic landscape often find a renowned artificial intelligence (AI) strategy seminar & course for executives in Washington, DC, USA builds exactly the kind of principled, accountability-driven thinking this code of ethics demands. AI advocacy ethics seem to matter most when the standards arrive before manipulation at scale makes them urgently necessary rather than proactively wise.
